Scientific work at SibSAU is organized into more than 40 scientific fields which correspond to the activities of its affiliated enterprises and academic institutes. Our strategic partners – the consumers of scientific work at SibSAU – are PJSC “Information Satellite Systems”, PJSC “Krasmash State Enterprise”, CCB “Geophysica”, as well as others.

The primary areas in which the University takes a leading position in training and research are connected with the development and modernization of Russian space information systems and the improvement of space vehicles, systems, and complexes for different purposes: fixed and mobile communication, telecasting, navigation, geodesy, and retranslation.

Students are involved in applied research, the conception and development of prospective platforms for automated space vehicles for civil and military purposes, small space vehicles, systems for managing space vehicles in orbit, and methods for the use of space information systems.

Research and development in the field of closed space systems are dedicated to bioregenerative systems of life support, equipment, reliability and safety in closed systems.

In the field of rocket and space vehicle production, fundamental and applied research is carried out pertaining to new materials and coverage development for rocket and space vehicles, high technologies and equipment, control and testing of rocket and space vehicles, and industry and management for organizations using rocket and space vehicles.

The basic Scientific School of SibSAU in the field of space systems was established in 1960 – 1970s by the Scientific School of academician M.F. Reshetnev, General Constructor of Space Systems (from 1959 to 1996).

The University together with its strategic partners has established an effective infrastructure for innovative and scientific activity. It includes four scientific and research institutes, five scientific and educational centers and more than 30 scientific laboratories. The University actively develops a system for instructor training and accreditation through the Centre for Postgraduate and Doctoral Training and seven Dissertation Councils in technical and economic specialties and also in philosophy.

Throughout its history the university has established and maintains international relationships with more than fifty universities in twenty-five countries of the world. The main focus is on long-term projects aimed at making educational and research activities meet world standards.

Within the framework of an international cooperation program our University carries out the following activities:

Our university is a member of Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), European Council for Business Education (ECBE), Institute of International Education (IIE), International Society for Engineering Education (IGIP).

Academic Programs

The focus in international academic cooperation is on the realization of mutually beneficial programs of academic exchange and joint projects which allow students to get Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree training in foreign universities. The aim of SibSAU is to have an average of 10% of student body as foreign students studying at university. We also encourage students of SibSAU to participate in different programs of student mobility.

On the average more than 50 foreign students come to SibSAU each year mostly as exchange students or for summer courses and internship. Up to 25-30 students of SibSAU study each year abroad as exchange students or for double diplomas.

Most student mobility programs have been developed with the US universities, the universities of the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Holland. A lot of students from the CIS study at SibSAU which is specific for all Russian universities. Student exchange and study abroad programs are organized under SibSAU bilateral agreements with such European higher schools as Holland Fontys, Eindhoven, Budapest Business School in Hungary, Czech Technical University in Prague, etc.

Joint projects with two US universities – New York State University, SUNY Oneonta and Dickinson State University – are very popular among SibSAU students. The projects allow students from SibSAU to get dual degrees – the Bachelor’s degree of US university and SibSAU Bachelor’s degree. One more joint program is being currently developed with the International Business School, Hungary. It will allow SibSAU students to get Oxford Brookes University Bachelor’s Degree.

Research

SibSAU occupies one of the top positions among Siberian institutions of higher learning participating in international academic projects. The University takes part in a number of European academic projects, among them: TEMPUS/TASIS, ERASMUS, Fulbright, DAAD and others, as well as collaborating with international research centers and industrial companies.

Each year more than 3,000 young people come to SibSAU to begin their student life. Here they study engineering, economics, and social sciences and become highly-qualified specialists – rocket builders, engineers, specialists in computer technologies, financiers, and managers.

The University currently trains students for a wide range of specialties: 32 Bachelor's degree and Specialist's degree programs designed to meet the needs of the space and high-tech industries. SibSAU is also one of the universities which trains specialists and scientific staff for state defense.

Recent years have seen a significant development in the Master's degree programs offered by the University. There are now 43 Master's degree programs in 15 areas.

Today the University enrolls more than 11,500 students. A multi-level system of training at SibSAU gives students new opportunities for advancement of their knowledge and trains them to be high-level professionals, specialists, and researchers in various areas of science and technology.

Education at SibSAU is carried out by 150 professors with doctors of sciences, and more than 400 associate professors with candidates of sciences. The educational process is implemented by the Aerospace College, 2 University subsidiaries, 4 institutes, 10 faculties, more than 50 chairs, and a complex of scientific and educational departments.

The University was founded as a unique higher educational institution where theoretical training is combined with practice in hi-tech enterprises from the very beginning of study. This tradition has been maintained throughout SibSAU’s history. Not only are students educated in university classrooms but also in scientific laboratories, workshops, and departments of affiliated enterprises. The Russian Academy of Sciences oversees the University’s activities and its educational and research programs.

Constant improvement of the educational process, the implementation of modern educational technologies, and competitive approaches provide for the dynamic development of the University. The University also focuses on in-depth language training – the English language is studied by students of all specialties and areas throughout their studies.

Over its many years, SibSAU has employed an innovative strategy which has fostered the evolution of the University as a leading space research university with an infrastructure for education and training, scientific and technical research, and industrial activities. The University, which started with a narrow focus, now offers a broad range of educational opportunities in engineering, science, and the humanities.

Admission to Russian universities is open. Here is some information on the application process to study in Russia.

To get in contact with the university you may send documents by e-mail to the university Department of International Cooperation. An application package consists of the application form (personal data), copies of documents describing previous education (both certificate/diploma and transcript/marksheet) and a copy of your passport. As a rule, decision making takes not more than 7-10 days.

If the application is approved, the university shall initiate the process for issuing of the state invitation letter. The document is to be released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The process requires at least 3-4 weeks. The original invitation letter (as well as confirmation of admission) are required when applying for a Russian student visa. The applicant should pay for express mail service to receive the documents with no delay.

Application for a visa may take a couple of weeks. Thus, the application process as a rule takes up to 1,5-2 months in total.

Pre-university programs (study of the language and core subjects) start within the time period September – November (depends on the university and the subject).
