In 1956, the Council of Ministers of the USSR decided to establish a Department of special chemistry on the basis of the Siberian Technical Institute of Forest which later became known as Siberian State University of Technology. By 1958, several Chemistry departments had been opened, including Department of inorganic materials technology, which existed until 1973, and Department of rubber technology. In the same year, there was established the Department of Chemical Engineering.

In 2016, the Siberian State Technological University joined the Flagship University of Krasnoyarsk region and the Department of Chemical Engineering became the part of Institute for Chemical Technology. On 18 May 2018, the Faculty of Chemical Technology was separated from the Institute of Chemical Technology by the decision of the Academic Senate of the Reshetnev University.

The Faculty trains bachelors, specialists, masters and post-graduate students for businesses, institutes and laboratories related to the production of medication and biologically active agents, petroleum refining, polymeric and composite materials, products of organic and inorganic synthesis, the production of highly nutritious compounds, solid rocket propellant, the recovery of industrial and household wastes.

Theoretical investigation of the solvation process and complex formation in different solvents; selection of an effective combustion catalyst of ferrocene-based fuel; the electrochemical reduction kinetics of organic compounds.

Synthesis and characteristics of aromatic and heterocyclic nitro and nitroso compounds; simulation of aromatic and heterocyclic molecules from aliphatic precursors; study of properties and fields of the first synthesized compounds application.

• Development and analysis of chemistry and effective polymer compounding technology and components; new species of raw materials, inputs and technological processes research; physicochemical properties research, adsorption activity and promoting activity of ultradisperse carbon materials.

Research of synthesis and characteristics of dual energetic compounds conditions; synthesis, structure and characteristics of new energetic derivatives of nitroguanidine.

Development of new composite and catalytically-active materials; the development and analysis of catalytic petroleum refining system; the generation of environmentally friendly hydrocarbon fuel.

• Theoretical development of polyfunctional nitro compounds reactivity in thermal destruction; the synthesis of compounds with specified parameters for thermal stability.
