1st year
students of the Institute of Forestry Engineering visited the Mansky airfield
as part of the discipline “Introduction to Professional Activities”. From this
airfield, nearby areas are patrolled by observation pilots of the local Forest
Fire Center.
Students
got acquainted with different types of aircraft and parachute jumping
technology. They watched the “newbies” jump, talked with the instructor, and
learned more about the profession of an observer pilot.
Observer
pilots carry out air patrols of forests on an Aн-2 aircraft, detect fires, decide how to
extinguish them and where to safely land paratroopers-firefighters. They supervise
the extinguishing efforts from the air. Whether they will rise into the sky
today depends on the class of fire danger in the forest.
At the end
of the excursion, its participants happily ate porridge from the field kitchen.
