The Institute of Social Engineering was previously known as the Faculty of Humanities and was established as a result of 3 Humanities Departments combination in 1989. The aim of the Faculty was to teach humanitarian and social disciplines for all the students. Its first dean,  Ph.D. professor Valerii A. Dmitrienko served from1989 to 1991. From 1991 to 2003 the Faculty of Humanities was headed by an Honored Cultural Worker of Russia,  member of the Russian Union of Journalists and the Union of Russian Writers, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences and current professor of the Institute Vladimir I. Zamyshliaev. From 2003 to 2010, the Faculty was headed by a Candidate of Philosophical Sciences and Associate Professor Anna A. Voroshilova.

In September 2016 the Humanities Departments of Reshetnev University and Siberian State University of Technology merged into the Institute of Social Engineering (the name  is partly referred to the book written by V.A. Achkasova "Public Relations as Social Engineering"). Now the Institute´s director is Ph.D. and Associate Professor Svetlana Iu. Piskorskaia, who is heading the Institute since 2011. 

Over the past 20 years, the Institute has become known as the Institute of creativity and scientific work. In the Institute, there are various student sub-departments such as the Students’ Legal Laboratory, the German Language Testing Center, the Creative Laboratory, and the Laboratory for Human Research.

Nowadays the Institute of Social Engineering is considered as a recognized leader of Russian professional education in the field of social communication.


Teaching staff of the Institute carry out intensive research activities, improve their professional and teaching qualification both in Russia and abroad, and participate in regional, national and international seminars and conferences.
