The Institute of Social Engineering was previously known as the Faculty of Humanities and was established as a result of 3 Humanities Departments combination in 1989. The aim of the Faculty was to teach humanitarian and social disciplines for all the students. Its first dean,  Ph.D. professor Valerii A. Dmitrienko served from1989 to 1991. From 1991 to 2003 the Faculty of Humanities was headed by an Honored Cultural Worker of Russia,  member of the Russian Union of Journalists and the Union of Russian Writers, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences and current professor of the Institute Vladimir I. In September 2016 the Humanities Departments of Reshetnev University and Siberian State University of Technology merged into the Institute of Social Engineering (the name is partly referred to the book written by V.A.
